General Questions About Wired Plastic™

Who can apply for a Wired Plastic Visa Prepaid Card?

In compliance with the USA PATRIOT Act* and other laws, you must be a US resident over 18 with a valid social security number and a verifiable physical US address (no PO boxes or APO addresses) to apply for a Wired Plastic Card. You must provide this information, along with other information pertinent to receiving approval for the Wired Plastic Card. Currently we do not issue the Wired Plastic Card to residents of Puerto Rico, Guam, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa or other US territories.

How much does it cost to set up a Wired Plastic Card card account?

There is a one-time Activation Fee of $9.95 that will be assessed the first time you add cash to your Wired Plastic Card.

How do I apply for a Wired Plastic Card?

In compliance with the USA PATRIOT act* and other laws, you must be an 18 year old US resident with a valid social security number and a verifiable physical US address (No PO Boxes) to apply for a Wired Plastic Card. Currently we do not issue the Wired Plastic Card to residents of Puerto Rico, Guam, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa or other US territories.

How long will it take to receive my Wired Plastic Card?

Upon successful identification verification* and approval, your Wired Plastic Card should arrive within 7-10 business days.

Who is the issuing bank?

The Bancorp Bank issues Wired Plastic Card. However, cardholder accounts are managed by Wired Plastic and individual cardholders do not have a personal bank account with The Bancorp Bank.

Is the Wired Plastic Card a credit card?

No. To spend money you must load money onto your Wired Plastic Card.  To load, you can add cash at participating retail partners, direct deposit, transfer money, or bank ACH direct load.  When you use the Wired Plastic Card, the amount of your purchase is deducted from the loaded balance.

Can I have my Wired Plastic Card sent to a PO Box?

No. The Wired Plastic Card must be shipped to a physical and verifiable US address.

After I receive my Wired Plastic Card how do I activate it?

Contact the toll-free account information line at 1 (866) 335-4784. You must call from the same number you provided in enrollment and follow the prompt instructions to active.

Will the Wired Plastic Card build credit?

No. Currently this is not a credit building program.

Can I have more than one Wired Plastic Card?

No, sorry. One Wired Plastic Card per person.

Questions About Click-n-Pay™

What is Click-n-Pay?

Click-n-Pay is Wired Plastic’s automated payment service. With Click-n-Pay, you can send a one-time or recurring electronic payment to thousands of billers listed in our database, or send a paper check to anyone. Since the payment amount is immediately deducted from your available balance, you will never incur a bounced check fee.

How do I use Click-n-Pay?

You can access Click-n-Pay to set up billers, send payments and view your transaction history via your account online or over the phone using our toll-free account information line.

Whom can I pay using Click-n-Pay?

Unlike most electronic bill pay programs, you can pay anyone using Click-n-Pay. If the person you want to send a payment to is not listed in our biller database, we will send them a paper check on your behalf.

Can I send checks using Click-n-Pay?

Yes, you can. Send a paper check to anyone using Click-n-Pay for $0.95.

How much does it cost to use Click-n-Pay?

Click-n-Pay service is available for only $0.45 per electronic payment and $0.95 per paper check.

Wired Points are our way of rewarding members for everyday spending.

What can I do with my Wired Points?

You can use Wired Points towards the purchase of prepaid wireless airtime with Verizon, TracFone, Cingular and AT&T.

How do I redeem my Wired Points?

Using your Wired Points is simple. Log into your account and choose the product you want to use your Wired Points towards under the "Redeem Wired Points" bar. If you don’t have enough Wired Points in your account to cover your purchase, the remainder can be paid for using your Wired Plastic Card.

How do I add cash to my account?

Wired Plastic offers a variety of ways to add cash to your account. Adding cash is quick and easy. You can add cash through:

  • Direct Deposit: Have pay, dividends, disability and government checks (i.e., Social Security, Medicare, Welfare, etc.) sent directly to your Wired Plastic Card account, FREE. Your funds are available the same business day they are received.
  • PayXone™: Add cash at over 25,000 retail locations. Your funds will be available within 30-60 minutes. A Retail Cash Load Fee will apply. [more information]
  • MoneyGram®: Add cash at over 25,000 agent locations. Your funds will post within 30-60 minutes. An agent load fee will apply. [more information]
  • Western Union®: Add cash at over 47,000 Western Union agent locations. Your funds are available within 30 minutes. A retail load fee will apply. [more information]

Can I deposit funds from my Wired Plastic Card card account into a bank account?

Yes. You can deposit funds from your Wired Plastic Card into any authorized US bank account for a $0.95 Deposit to a US Bank Account Fee by logging into your Wired Plastic Card account online and selecting "Money Transfer".

What are the loading limits for the Wired Plastic Card?

You may add funds to your Card, called "value loading", at any time. The minimum amount of each initial value load is $10.00. The minimum amount of each value reload is $10.00. The maximum amount of the initial value load is $2,500.00. The maximum amount of each value reload is $2,500.00. The maximum amount that can be reloaded per day is $2,500.00. All methods of adding cash except direct deposit are subject to this limit. The retail load partner may impose additional limitations on the frequency and amount of load transactions.

How do I add cash using PayXone™, Western Union® or MoneyGram®?

To add cash through PayXone™ at participating Americas Cash Express locations:

Retail Cash Load Fee: $3.00

  1. At the location tell the store associate that you need to load funds onto your Wired Plastic Card.
  2. Give your Wired Plastic Card to the associate.
    • IMPORTANT NOTICE - the store MUST swipe your Wired Plastic Card to start the transaction, they CANNOT key in your 16-digit card number.
  3. Give cash and load fee to the associate ($10.00 minimum, $2,500 maximum).
  4. Approve the amount of the transaction on the PIN Pad.
  5. Keep the receipt with your transaction number for your records.
  6. Your funds will be posted to your Wired Plastic Card account in 30-60 minutes.
  • IMPORTANT NOTICE: Funds can take over 1 hour to post to your Wired Plastic Card. If the ACE location is unable to load your Wired Plastic Card please have them contact Store Support by calling 1-888-753-2384.

To add cash at a Western Union® Agent location: [store locator]

Retail Cash Load Fee: $3.95

  1. Visit a Western Union Agent location and complete the gray Western Union Prepaid Services / SwiftPay form using the following information:
    • Account Number: your 16-digit Wired Plastic Card number
    • Pay To Company: Wired Plastic
    • Amount: cash you want to load ($10 minimum, $950 maximum)
  2. Give cash, completed form, and Retail Cash Load Fee to the Western Union Agent (no Checks or credit cards accepted).
  3. Keep the receipt for your records.
  4. Your funds will be posted to your Wired Plastic Card account in 10-15 minutes.

To add cash at a MoneyGram® agent location: [store locator]

Load Fee: $4.95

  1. Visit a MoneyGram Agent location and complete the blue ExpressPayment form using the following information:
    • Receive Code: 4741
    • Pay To Company: Wired Plastic
    • City: Salt Lake City, State: Utah
    • Account Number: your 16-digit card number
    • Amount: cash you want to load ($10 minimum, $999 maximum)
  2. Give cash, completed form, and load fee to the MoneyGram Agent.
  3. Keep the reference number that confirms your transaction for your records.
  4. Your funds will be posted to your Wired Plastic Card account in 30-60 minutes.

Questions About Account and Card Management

How do I view my account activity?

You can view all account transactions by logging into your Wired Plastic Card online account and selecting Card Management > Account Transactions. The Account Transactions page displays a history of transactions and available balance.

What happens if I return something I purchased with my Wired Plastic Card?

When you return something purchased with your Wired Plastic Card, the merchant will credit the amount of the return to your card account. Because returns are handled via the merchant’s bank, credits may take 2-3 business days to appear in your Wired Plastic Card account.

If my Wired Plastic Card is lost or stolen, can somebody use it?


Unfortunately, yes. So if your Wired Plastic Card is lost or stolen, contact the Wired Plastic toll-free account information line at 1 (866) 335-4784. Enter your account information, then select option 3, "Card Status and Security" then select either "Lost" or "Stolen," you can deactivate your Wired Plastic Card to prevent unauthorized use. If you don’t have your Wired Plastic Card number, contact customer service at 1 (801) 383-1003 to deactivate your Wired Plastic Card.

If your Wired Plastic Card has been lost or stolen, a replacement Wired Plastic Card will automatically be issued for a Replacement Card Fee of $3.95.

How do I report fraud on my Wired Plastic Card?

In the case of suspected fraud, contact the Wired Plastic customer service at 1 (801) 383-1003.

How do I check my current balance?

Go to www.wiredplastic.com and log in. Click Card Management > Account Transactions. The Account Transactions page displays a history of transactions and available balance. Also, did you know you can sign up for Wireless Alerts via text message or email? These convenient services alert you of your balance when any card activity occurs. You can sign up for these services when you log in to your online account. You can also contact the toll-free account information line at 1 (866) 335-4784.

What if I disagree with my balance total?

Inform customer service via secure email by logging in and clicking ‘Contact Us’. Or, call customer service at 1 (801) 383-1003.

What is the Personal Identification Number (PIN)?

The PIN is a four-digit number that is used when making purchases and obtaining cash. It is a security feature that personalizes your Wired Plastic Card. We recommend you keep this number safe; do not keep it in your wallet, or write it on the Wired Plastic Card.

You will need your PIN if you select "Debit" when you swipe your Wired Plastic Card, but not if you select "Credit". Also, the ATM console will require you to input your PIN when withdrawing money.

You can personalize your PIN by contacting the toll-free account information line at 1 (866) 335-4784. When you personalize your PIN, choose a number that you are familiar with so you don’t easily forget it.

What if I forget my PIN?

Visit www.wiredplastic.com and log in. Click Account Management > Update Profile and choose Change Personal Identification Number. Or, contact customer service at 1 (801) 383-1003; they can help you reset and choose a new PIN.

How do I close my Wired Plastic Card card account?

Please contact customer service at 1 (801) 383-1003. You can transfer your remaining balance to another account, or have us send you a check in the mail. You also have the option to withdraw your funds at an ATM (fees included). You will need to send us your Wired Plastic Card or destroy it. Send your Wired Plastic Card to us at PO Box 71402 Salt Lake City, UT 84171.

Will I receive a monthly statement?

No. But, you can view a history of transactions via your online account. Go to www.wiredplastic.com and log in.

When are customer service representatives available?

Wired Plastic customer service representatives are available by calling 1 (801) 383-1003 Monday through Friday from 8 am to 8 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm Mountain Standard Time. You can also access your account balance or transaction history, report your Wired Plastic Card lost or stolen, pay bills with Click-n-Pay and charge long distance calls to your account 24 hours a day by calling the Wired Plastic toll-free account information line at 1 (866) 335-4784.

Questions about purchasing options

Where can I use the Wired Plastic Card?

The Wired Plastic Card is accepted wherever Visa debit cards are accepted worldwide. However, some car rental companies and hotels do not accept prepaid Visa cards.

Can I use the Wired Plastic Card to make reservations at hotels?

It depends on the hotel. When you make a reservation at a hotel it is called an ‘open end transaction’. That means the total amount due is unknown. The hotel has the right to authorize more than the initial payment to cover damages that could occur during your stay. The hotel can place a hold on these funds for 30 days. Many times the card will not have sufficient funds to cover additional charges; for this reason some hotels do not accept prepaid cards. However, some hotels will accept prepaid cards under special rules; therefore, we recommend you first call the hotel and inquire about their prepaid card policy.

Can I use the Wired Plastic Card to rent a car?

It depends on the rental agency. When you make a car reservation it’s called an ‘open end transaction’. That means the total amount due is unknown. The agency has the right to authorize more than the initial payment to cover fuel refills or damages that occurred during your rental. They can place a hold on these funds for 90 days. Many times the card will not have sufficient funds to cover additional charges; for this reason some car rental agencies do not accept prepaid cards. However, some will accept prepaid cards under special rules; therefore, we recommend you first call the rental agency and inquire about their prepaid card policy.

Can I use the Wired Plastic Card to purchase gas at the pump?

Yes, but to pay at the pump you must have a $125 balance. If you don’t have a $125 balance, your card will be declined. If you want to buy gas without a $125 balance, go inside and have the cashier enter the amount you would like to buy.

Can I spend more money than I have on the card?

No. Your Wired Plastic Card will be accepted only if you have loaded enough money onto the Wired Plastic Card to cover what you buy.

Which browser works best with your website?

The Wired Plastic website is best viewed with Firefox 3.6 or higher, Safari 5 or higher, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 or higher. Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 or higher is preferred due to security concerns; hovever, the site can be viewed with versions 6 and 7.
